Students ride city buses, for free

Through the City of Cedar Rapids Sponsored Student Fare Program, CRCSD students can ride fixed route Cedar Rapids Transit buses for free year-round. High school students must show their school ID upon boarding the bus. Elementary and middle school students do not need to show their student ID.

Commitment to green energy

CRCSD was awarded $417,500 in 2020, and $500,000 in 2018 from the Iowa’s Volkswagen Settlement Environmental Mitigation Trust funding. The approved grant funding, distributed via the Iowa Department of Transportation, is for the purchase of 21 propane and two electric buses with vehicle-to-grid (V2G) capabilities. CRCSD partnered with Alliant Energy to seek funds for the electric bus initiative.
