On Thursday, the Washington High School Theatre Department and Playtime Poppy allowed students to experience life behind the scenes of a theatrical production. Third graders from Erskine Elementary School and Johnson STEAM Academy learned about building and painting sets, costumes, applying make-up, fly lines, and using a lift to adjust the lighting.
Washington High School and Playtime Poppy will present "The Hardy Boys," a modern twist on classic novels, April 18 – 20.

Students and staff across the District observed the solar eclipse Monday afternoon.
Taft Middle School provided viewing glasses for nearly 700 students and staff. Mr. Koepke has been preparing students for the event in his 7th and 8th grade science classes. "This is a once in a lifetime event for many students. While it may happen often, it does not happen often for where you are on planet Earth," says Mr. Koepke. Many students thought it was interesting and appreciated the rare occurrence. Some thought it would be darker, but everyone noticed a distinct temperature drop.

The Kingston grounds crew is preparing for one of the season’s largest CRCSD Track and field events on Saturday. The Kingston grounds crew i boys are hosting the Draxton-Stiers Invitational, and the Kennedy girls are hosting the Wilkinson Invitational. Both events begin at 10:30 a.m.
The co-ed event and moderate weather are expected to bring larger-than-normal crowds to the facility.
The Kingston grounds crew is part of the District’s Buildings and Grounds Department.

Maple Grove Elementary School third-graders were treated to an exceptional musical performance Wednesday morning. Orchestra Iowa’s Woodwind Quintet engaged students through music. Wednesday morning, Wednes Community School students’ hard work paid off with a glow party. Last month, k-5 students earned 10,000 P.B.I.S. (Positive Behavior Intervention Supports) tickets for being respectful, responsible, and safe. Each class spent 15 minutes in the cafeteria turned glow auditorium.
H.P.A.C. (Hoover Parent Advisory Council) paid for the glow sticks and party favors.
