As you may be aware, the Cedar Rapids Community School District has initiated its search for a new superintendent. To counsel us through this important process, we have retained the services of Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates (HYA), a consulting firm that specializes in assisting school boards with the consideration of candidates for superintendent.

A key step in this process is to identify the characteristics we will be seeking in our new superintendent. During November 10-11, 2022, Hazard, Young, Attea, and Associates (HYA) hosted 27 sessions. They met with parents, students, administrators, teachers, community partners and community members. HYA also obtained feedback received from an online survey. With this information, HYA developed the firm’s leadership profile summary report.

During the November 21, 2022, Special Board of Education Meeting, the Board approved a Leadership Profile Report presented by the Superintendent Search Firm Hazard, Young, Attea (HYA), and Associates.

A proposed timeline was also provided, indicating the first round of candidate interviews to be scheduled for the first week of January. The second round of interviews took place the week of January 17-19.

On Thursday, January 26, 2023, The Cedar Rapids Community School District Board of Education voted unanimously to appoint Dr. Tawana Grover as the District’s new superintendent of schools, effective July 1, 2023.
