City View Community High School celebrated its official first day of class with a Community Kick-off Event at the Downtown Cedar Rapids Public Library. CRCSD Superintendent Dr. Gover, Cedar Rapids’ Mayor Tiffany O’Donnell, Cedar Rapids Bank & Trust President James Klein, and Danielle Monthei from Van Meter Inc. all spoke at the event, welcoming the more than 100 students attending the new downtown school. This new magnet school offers students a new, innovative way of learning through hands-on community projects and experiences driven by their interests. City View Community High School is located in the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance building in downtown Cedar Rapids, giving students easy access to business and city leaders. CRCSD strongly believes that family engagement is essential for our students’ success. When parents and guardians are involved in their child’s education, students have better academic outcomes, improved attendance, and higher graduation rates. We encourage you to read to your students before bed, help with their homework, and ask about their school day. Regularly check your Infinite Campus Parent Portal to review your student’s attendance, grades, schedule, and more. There are also many opportunities for you to get more involved in a school – attend school activities, collect Hy-Vee receipts, join your school’s PTA, or volunteer in a classroom.
