Students at Pierce Elementary gathered on the playground at the start of school this past Monday morning to come together and form a symbol kicking off their week of awareness.
“We made a ribbon with the whole school,” said Carter, a fifth grade student at Pierce.
“It was a cool idea for Red Ribbon week!”
Carter came up with the idea, after being challenged to find creative ways for students to honor Red Ribbon week.
“Red Ribbon week is about staying away from drugs and alcohol,” said Stephanie Cobert, Pierce’s school counselor. “But more importantly about making good choices and keeping healthy.”
Carter thought it was really cool that his fellow students could come together and celebrate a first together by creating the ribbon. There were also many other unique dress up days for students the rest of the week to encourage awareness. Way to go Pierce Panthers!
